• Mineralization-induced Self-reinforcement Hydrogel
Manufactured UV curable hydrogel; attached enzyme inside the polymer network; carried out theoretical and experimental study on the biomineralization-induced enhancement of hydrogel.
• Growing Living Composites with 3D-printed Ordered Microstructures
Presented a methodology to manufacture bionic mineralized composites by harnessing guided bio-mineralization within 3D-printed highly ordered polymer scaffold. Highlighted an exciting opportunity for future bionic composite materials by tailoring interactions between living organisms and 3D-printed synthetic materials.
• Bone-inspired Healing of 3D-Printed Ceramics
Conducted experiments on autonomous healing of 3D-printed porous polymer-derived ceramics with carbonate-precipitating bacteria; Observed good mechanical behavior as well as thermal and chemical resistance on the healed interfaces of ceramics; Performed a theoretical study to understand his healing mechanism.
• Study on Mechanical Behaviors of Electrophoresis induced Hydrogel Adhesion
Project Sponsored by Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator Program
Established an analytical theory framework to model the electrophoresis-induced reversible adhesion; Obtained good agreements between the theoretical results and the experimental results for both electrophoresis-induced hydrogel adhesion and adhesion releasing.
• Study on Extracellular Matrix of Pancreatic Tissue
Modeled 3D elastomeric structures using Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to study the bio-mechanical response and buckling behavior of the resected pancreatic tissues (soft materials).

• Identification Hotel Reviews Based on Naïve Bayes and Perceptron Classifiers
Implemented a Naïve Bayes classifier and perception classifiers (including vanilla and averaged) to identify hotel reviews as either truthful or deceptive, and either positive or negative.
• Part-of-speech Tagger for Different Languages based on a Hidden Markov Model
Constructed a part-of-speech tagger based on HMM to add tags for Italian, Japanese, and an unknown language.
• Chinese Bert-based Task Oriented Dialogue System
Built a Bert-based task-oriented dialogue system, which is a dialogue assistant for flight and restaurant reservation in Chinese. Fine-tuned the intent classification and slot filling with Bert-pretrained language model with PyTorch.
• AI Searching Agent for “Time Travelling” Problem
Developed an AI agent to search for the optimal and shortest path and navigate through a complex time-travelling configuration. The problem was solved with: BFS, UCS, and A* search.
• AI Agent for Little-go Gaming
Developed an AI agent to play a small version of the Go game, a reduced board size of Go game, based on no-suicide and KO rules. Both game playing and reinforcement learning algorithms were tried to improve the winning percentage.
• Hand-written Digits Classifier based on a Multi-layer Perceptron Neural Network
Constructed a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network and used it to classify hand-written digit with no existing machine learning libraries.
• Stock-searching Web and Mobile Applications
Implemented the backend using Python Flask deployed on GCP. Developed a stock-searching web application and a mobile application on iOS system.
• Grain Tracking based on Highly Parallel DBSCAN
Simulated the sintering processes of aluminum nitride nano powders based on parallel molecular dynamics. The output data is further analyzed using a parallel DBSCAN technique.
