I mostly tell Claude to do things. The things vary but are mostly backend engineering things. Sometimes they're data engineering or developer tooling things. I also attend meetings, sometimes.

Worked as a hybrid data/production/backend engineer with an emphasis on scaling performance, developer tools, and organizing complex projects. I also championed the team's latency and resource optimization, as well as knowledge sharing programs.

I think of myself as an expert Rubyist and prefer it for for my server, ops, and developer tools work, while we work primarily with Kotlin, but occasionally Bash, Python, or Go for the data engineering and infra bits. Fairly knowledgeable about the internals of Apache Beam and Bigtable, and very much so about Elasticsearch.

I also coordinate the broader Search team's knowledge sharing efforts like our Brunch & Blearn (it's an EU-friendly time) and onboarding programs.

Started at Triplebyte (RIP) with a front-end focus but grew into working flexibly on the Rails backend, deployment and observability tooling, and developer tools, as well as continued expertise on the frontend.
