I worked on HopsFS, a distributed filesystem based on the Apache Hadoop distributed file system. My responsibility is to design and implement support for heterogeneous storage, meaning that the file system is aware of differences in hardware (e.g. harddisks vs. flash storage) and optimizes distribution of files to maximize utilization of the resources.
