I worked on 3 separate teams while in Systems Engineering at Cloudflare: Application Services, Core API, and IAM (Identity and Access Management). Stakeholders and software domains differed significantly across these teams, but the core engineering responsibilities were:

• build APIs and event driven systems written in PHP and Go leveraging PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, and Cloudflare products

• build UIs in JavaScript / TypeScript using React for internal and external customer use

• operate and maintain software according to Cloudflare's industry leading performance and availability standards to entice and delight customers

• collaborate within the team and across the organization through excellent nontechnical and technical communication / documentation

• (on API/IAM) execute on technical lead responsibilities including mentorship, project planning, project leadership, and architectural design/review

• Introduced Kubernetes developer platform for internal product teams

• Implemented PaaS capabilities using OSS including Jenkins and Kubernetes Operator pattern

• Designed and developed the organization's first Go services, refactoring multiple legacy PHP applications into Go microservices with 0 downtime during deployment

Participating in the company's growth from hire 60 to hire 300+ has afforded me the opportunity to engage in a large variety of initiatives and projects:

Provide development and continuous integration support for Operations including but not limited to:

• Full development lifecycle work on Puppet configuration management modules, tooling, and continuous integration

• Attack mitigation and support

• Improving application and infrastructure telemetry via Grafana, Kibana, openNMS, openTSDB, and Elasticsearch

• Systems administration for production CentOS hosts running a plethora of different technologies (see Technologies)

• Load balancing and WAF configuration for HA services

• Apache and Nginx web server configuration, testing, and tuning

Cross-functional work on Engineering teams, functioning as Operations liason and full stack engineer:

• Compose project specifications and technical approach documentation for new services and infrastructure

Supported our MIS, Legal, and Fraud teams in compliance related initiatives:

• Designed and developed compliant core application features for OFAC standards

• Delivered high visibility, business critical reporting tooling and analysis to Legal and Fraud teams

• Architected a highly available single sign-on solution for the enterprise using Okta and OpenLDAP

• Developed and deployed a compliant internal tool for provisioning and deprovisioning users and user assets
