Hosted Graphite is a start-up company (at the time a few more than 10 employees) providing a hosted

version of the popular open source time series database and visualization tool Graphite.

As an SRE at Hosted Graphite, my primary role consisted of:

* Operation, maintenance and on-call support for full stack of custom and open source software.

* Support of the software engineering team with guidance to improve reliability and ease of operation of custom software stack.

* Development of monitoring tools, automation (in Python) and configuration management (using Puppet) to support rapid infrastructure growth with a small operations team.

Demonware is an industry leading company specialising in creating networking software and services for computer game development and online services and is subsidiary of Activision Blizzard.

The SRE Team manages more than 3,000 physical servers used to host Demonware’s on-line services, supporting some of the most popular computer games in the world today. The team’s key areas of responsibility include:

* Automating everything!

* Working with developers to design and deploy new services

* Identifying, responding to and helping to troubleshoot operational issues

* Ensuring the smooth, secure and efficient operation of all hardware and software in the live environment
