As Design System Lead, my goals were: to shift our culture from siloed designers to a collaborative matrixed design team that shares assets and mental models across products; to encourage a better relationship between design and engineering; and to save the org time in building and maintaining applications while addressing business goals like FAIR data.

• Worked with senior leadership and cross-functional partners to get buy-in for a strategic initiative to improve the quality of our internal products, while supporting more efficient and sustainable design & development processes.

• Led the UI Audit initiative to get an overview of the design team’s current product landscape, encouraging a more systematic way of designing.

• Brought together designers and front-end engineers to create a new vision for software that supported the CIO’s mission.

• Mentored designers in Figma adoption and organized weekly “design swarms” to brainstorm, critique, and collaborate.

• Created contribution process and started Design System community.

• Created a cohesive design system in Figma for use across our scientific research applications with documentation.

Designed web applications for complex drug research and internal services following iterative, user-centered best practices, resulting in software that supports faster workflows with less errors. Advocated for the value of UX beyond aesthetics, creating enterprise software with the quality and care expected of consumer apps.

• Designed and maintained software style guide. Worked with Novartis Communications to adopt branding style guidelines to scientific enterprise applications, giving our team the trust and autonomy to create without oversight.
