Led a team tasked with implementing and integrating new data sources into a Hadoop-based data lake hosted in Azure. The data sources feeding this lake include the company’s MDM system, accounting system, and a wealth of ancillary sources of financial and portfolio information in a variety of formats, such as CSV, JSON, RDBMS and XML.
Responsibilities include designing scalable, resilient processes for data ingestion and end-to-end transformation using a broad spectrum of technologies including Hive, Spark, HBase, Apache NiFi, Python, Java, Sqoop, Oozie and others as well as daily hands-on development across the entire technology stack; mentoring and client interfacing.
Other tasks include global responsibility for refactoring legacy data lake-related processes and remediating performance bottlenecks.

Managed the development of metadata acquisition for a cutting-edge media consumption startup (product name: Buzzangle Music) offering analytics for the global music industry, including album and song sales, audio and video streams, and airplay.
Co-architected and managed the development and roll-out of the latest version of metadata processing software using the Hortonworks suite of big data tools (Hadoop, Hive, HBase, Oozie, Spark, Sqoop) and ancillary technologies (such as Solr) developed in Java and Perl. The previous version of the platform used traditional database and software development technologies (MySQL and Perl).
