• Contributed to an internal sub-accounting solution built with a microservices approach using AWS Lambda, EventBridge, and Step Functions via the Serverless framework
• Implemented structured logs for multiple Serverless projects and helped to integrate them and APM instrumentation data with Elasticsearch
• Advocated for structured logs, designed their format, and implemented a trial within a key public Node.js service with ingestion into Sumo Logic

• Joined full-time to focus on furthering the Vestwell user experience while scaling to 200+ employees and nearly one million savers (retirement plan participants) employed by 25,000+ small businesses across the country
• Lead a gradual transition from a proprietary server-rendered React architecture to a modern, responsive single page app following a hybrid "islands" approach building various tooling and methods to mount and hydrate components in the browser.
• Helped to scale frontend development 3x through implementation of a monorepo, code linting, code formatting, exception monitoring with Sentry, and automated versioning while simplifying the architecture to align with industry norms
• Collaborated with the company's first full-time designer to expand the component library and establish a broader design system implemented in Sketch and React and aligned to company's first brand guidelines.
• Iterated the design system through regular product/design collaboration using Figma and Chromatic/Storybook. Helped deliver improvements to user satisfaction and retention, achieve WCAG 2.0 accessibility conformance, and executed a second rebrand.
• Served as tech lead of a Scrum squad (1 PM, 1 QA, 3 full stack engineers) for 2 years (half remote) focused primarily on advisor and saver-facing features. Worked closely with product management and designers to plan and deliver our roadmap.
• Closely collaborated with Scala engineers to design and deliver next generation REST API endpoints and enforce their consistency through OpenAPI contracts and the JSON:API specification with a style guide implemented via OpenAPI linting rules and documentation generated using ReDoc
• Contributed to the UI and architecture of various key features including dashboards, investment elections, advisor reporting, payroll contribution processing, company registration, whitelabeling, and more

• Filled a frontend development gap in seed stage early days, shipping MVP capabilities as quickly as possible with few resources while establishing an early component library and other patterns along the way
• Oversaw frontend contributions from a mix of junior and contract engineers, mentoring to ensure code quality

Svelte is a competitor to React that is notable in everything it can do that React does, but with less code to write and better, compiled code that is fast and energy efficient. React’s strength is increasingly the ecosystem that has built around it.
Two projects within that, Styled System and Chakra UI, inspired me to implement a similar means of styling Svelte components within the constraints of a design system expressed as configuration. Unlike the React-based inspiration, Svelte System components maintain Svelte’s efficiency with zero runtime.

Revisiting a site I originally built in 2015, the architecture and urban strategy practice had leveled up in Brooklyn while also expanding to Detroit. A growing body of work was becoming increasingly untenable to maintain as a static site deployed from the laptop of partner Bryan Boyer.
I rebuilt the site using Next.js and the Sanity CMS, enabling the entire team to contribute to an ongoing database of projects. The site still benefits from server-rendered pages but now uses modern on-demand incremental static regeneration to update the site quickly whenever content is published.
