Shanghai City, China
Technical mentor of Cupertino based design team and lead designer of Shanghai office. Oversaw mechanical system architecture, participated in system design reviews, major issue list (MIL) generation and Asia factory build support from Proto to Ramp for iPhone, iPod, Apple Watch, and accessories.
Supported worldwide operations in the US (50% time) and Asia (50% time).

Directly responsible for high level system architecture, detailed mechanical design and execution (Concept to Ramp) for iOS accessories as well as next generation interconnects for entire iOS product line. Extensive cross-functional team interactions as well as direct interface/collaboration with Apple's Industrial Designers.
• HDMI adapters (principal designer, responsible for the first, second, and third generation products)
• Lightning dock (principal designer for both the plastic and Aluminum versions)
• Lightning to microUSB adapter (principal designer for 2nd generation product, new design to allow for completely automated assembly in Japan)
• Lighting Connector Architecture (Worked to define initial interfaces and detailed design on Lightning plug and receptacles for iOS devices)
• Interconnect design (Led design of worlds smallest audio jacks to enable products such as iPod touch and Shuffle)
• Cable designs (Architect of current USB and HDMI video cable design, high current/high bandwidth/low noise)
2007 — 2009
Redondo Beach, CA
Responsible engineer for two-axis motor driven antenna deployment actuator. Managed all aspects of the initial design and procurement including managing designers, performing drawing review, and worked with program procurement and outside suppliers to ensure the on cost and on schedule deliveries of critical parts.
• Worked with outside suppliers and government customer to identify critical parts that could be flight qualified by similarity resulting in over two months of schedule savings and over $50,000 in cost savings.
• Worked with a cross-functional team representing various spacecraft systems to solidify unit performance requirements
• Developed accurate project schedule and identified long lead components to mitigate future schedule slip
Responsible engineer for $20M motor actuated space latching mechanism and 4 axis mechanical arm assembly. Led all aspects of the value stream from working with the customer to define system requirements, design in CATIA to the creation and release of engineering drawings, procurement,
assembly test and final sell off.
• Created and implemented innovative cell based manufacturing work flows resulting in over one month of schedule savings and accolades from the customer and the program directorate.
• Developed build process for latching mechanism and translated process into assembly manual for the technicians.
• Interpreted design requirements into functional tests and led team of 4 technicians to successfully run the testing programs and as a result verified the design requirements for the customer.
• Directed testing program at both Northrop Grumman and outside vendors for the latching mechanism (used to secure 8,000lb space payload during launch) and 4 axis mechanical
arm assembly (used to deploy a space payload during on orbit operations).
• Developed bearing test fixture used to diagnose and repair a design flaw saving one month in schedule
