Corbalt is a mission-driven government contractor founded by Google engineers who fixed HealthCare.gov after its troubled launch.

• Led writing of successful proposal for five-year, $43M contract at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), doubling the company’s revenue and headcount; developed technical vision and wrote key sections

• Staffed, managed, and provided technical direction for group of 25 engineers and product managers building infrastructure, automation, shared services, and tools supporting HealthCare.gov, Medicare.gov, and other CMS properties

• Led development and operations of critical HealthCare.gov services that scaled to 83,000 requests per minute and exhibited 100% uptime over the past three Open Enrollment periods

• Designed and developed platform that integrates data from AWS, GitHub, Jira, and other data sources to provide organization-wide DevOps metrics to government leaders

• As member of executive team, designed company policies, guided hiring decisions, and fostered culture of collaboration and pragmatism; achieved employee-satisfaction index of 87% in 2024

I started and ran a software consultancy for non-profits, startups, and tech companies including Google, Nokia, and Flipboard.

• Designed, developed, and launched over a dozen products, employing myriad technologies; projects included a VPN app, art-management system, and commerce platform

• Led team of designers and engineers to create immersive, site-specific experience at Google’s campus in New York City; designed system architecture and protocols to link phones, tablets, and wall-mounted screens; wrote Android app

• In collaboration with University of Virginia professors, commercialized research in computer graphics as Arqspin, an app for 360° product photography; designed and implemented server, API, transcoder, website, and iOS client library

• Designed and developed iPhone apps including a multiplayer, mixed-reality laser-tag game and a shopping app for the the largest food coop in the U.S.

After I left Microsoft, I founded a non-profit organization that used technology and creative marketing to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

• Conceived, developed, and operated The Darfur Wall (darfurwall.org), motivating 4,700 people from 30 countries to donate over $100,000 in aid to non-profits working in western Sudan

• Secured press from the Seattle Times, Boston Globe, Jerusalem Post, and other print, web, and television outlets; presented at Ignite Seattle, the office of the Attorney General of Washington State, Seattle Pacific University, and throughout the region

• Established legal entity, gained 501(c)(3) status, kept books, and managed other business aspects of the project

I was the Program Manager for the business applications team in the SharePoint Server group, coordinating a group of eight developers and testers.

• Designed and wrote specifications for new enterprise-application integration subsystem of SharePoint that brought data from SQL Server, SAP, Oracle, and other systems into Microsoft Office; shipped in Office 2007

• Presented at major technical events including TechEd, the SharePoint Conference, and the Professional Developers Conference

• Received eight patents for enterprise-application integration; awarded Microsoft Gold Star
