I worked at Apto for over two years and saw many phases the company went through. A few highlights from my time there include:

• Built a serverless application from scratch with AWS Lambda, AWS DynamoDB, and Vue to streamline customer support workflows

• Implemented ACH funding capabilities, working with a partner bank and subject matter experts to ensure compliance to financial standards

• Added various API endpoints and functionalities for the core sinatra/rails apps which focused on card issuance, funding, and account maintenance

• Converted SQL queries into ruby to automate generating reports for clients, replacing hours of weekly manual work

• Automated team’s repo testing, deployments, and pull request creation with github workflows

• Fostered continuous team improvement through pair programming, mentoring, and running tech guilds

TeamSnap was my first full remote position and I learned quite a bit in a short amount of time. The people I got to work with were amazing and the culture was so good that I felt more connected to my teammates in a full remote environment than in my previous office setting.

What I worked on at TeamSnap:

• Utilized Stripe and WePay to power financial processing for an app that serves over 22 million

• Increased customer usage of ACH payments by 10% by altering the point in the workflow where the Stripe account is created as part of a team pivot to respond to changes in Visa’s nonprofit rates

• Consistently balanced the needs of the company with the needs of working on tech debt and suggested meaningful changes to team process to improve efficiency

• Jumped into a new tech stack and leveraged remote pair programming to hit the ground running

I joined Cerner after a college internship, focusing initially on big data processing with Java and Hadoop but eventually shifting into a more front-end role with Ruby on Rails and React. I had the honor to work with many talented individuals, and I believe that the most important aspect of software development is a solid connection with your teammates through empathy, communication, and a common goal. Our common goal was improve healthcare by writing and maintaining applications that serve as an interface of the Cerner HealtheIntent platform for clients, consultants, and other engineers.

Projects I worked on at Cerner:

• Enhanced a rails web application to allow users to switch between AWS regions on demand

• Maintained several React.js, Ruby on Rails, and Java applications and APIs utilized by Cerner clients, consultants, and other engineers within our organization

• Configured Apache Hadoop applications on a new AWS cluster and enabled Kerberos for added security

• Joined forces with numerous teams to migrate live clients from on-premises servers to AWS

• Reduced cluster resource usage of a crunch pipeline by 20% by leveraging more efficient data models

• Met with solution designers, wrote requirements, and completed logical implementation of patient consent filtering in order to be compliant with EU health privacy laws
