Social Networking for Physicians

Medstro is a social network for physicians and medical students. As one of the five developers on their team, I worked on almost every aspect of the application, including groups, contests, friend requests, messaging, profiles, invitations, and resource collections. The application is built in Ruby on Rails with a SQL database, and it uses Haml and CoffeeScript on the front end.

• Develop bug fixes and improvements for the existing application in response to user requests

• Develop new features and integrate them seamlessly into the existing data structure

• Participate in daily standups and weekly calls to discuss our progress and ways to improve our process as a development team

• Create integration tests for new and existing features using Rspec

Engineer on the Internal Tools Team

The Internal Tools team develops a number of applications in order to help the CI team manage, groom, and transform the data that goes into Optum One, a powerful healthcare analytics tool. I personally worked on Spec System, a management system for the main data structures used by Optum One; FMConsole, an application that provides job management and reporting capabilities; Quality Gates Analyzer (QGA), an application that provides tools to analyze data; and Synonym Manager (SynMan), a tool that manages mapping codes between controlled vocabularies. All four applications are built using Grails, Groovy, Javascript, jquery, Spring, and SQL among other technologies.

• Participate in daily standups, release planning, and sprint retrospectives as part of an Agile development process.

• Develop bug fixes and new features for the applications in response to user and QA feedback.

• Work closely with the QA team and the applications’ users in order to ensure the best quality release.

• Make any necessary changes to the SQL schemas used by the applications
