• Managed all technical matters, including product development and internal IT systems, for more than 20 years. For the last 17 of those years, I was also President of the company and a member of the board of directors.
• Responsible for developing the industry leading solution for content delivery over IP Multicast.
• Primary technical point of contact for all key accounts. Developed relationships with hundreds of contacts in the broadcast, satellite, military, and digital cinema industries.
• Led program to professionalize software development practices (code reviews, automation, formal QA processes, etc.).
• Introduced new product variants and new licensing models in order to increase revenue.
• Drove efforts to introduce hardware product lines, producing several vertically integrated solutions providing increased value (>1000%) in specific markets, like digital cinema. The digital cinema solution was adopted by every major service provider delivering first-run features in North and South America.
• Developed new technologies supporting mobile satellite applications.
• Collaborated with other industry leaders to develop standards for application-layer opportunistic data insertion protocols.
• Inventor on 12 U.S. patents.
• Sole inventor of a series of novel forward error correction (FEC) algorithms for protecting live video streams. Continued to advance the technology with important breakthroughs as recently as 2017. In recent years, this area has seen a lot of activity from many companies and industry groups, but all competitive solutions which have been introduced have similar performance characteristics to the algorithms I designed 18 years ago.
• Remained hands-on, continuing to be the principal maintainer of code and contributor of new code in the company, even as an increasing percentage of time was devoted to management and customer relationships.
