• Worked on core product front page search, matching, and ranking; everyday development included Go services, offline Spark jobs in Scala, machine learning model development, and integration of new features into the website.
• Designed and built an internal tool for comparing ranking algorithms, which continues to be used nearly daily by the team to allow faster iteration and debugging of ranking algorithms.
• Overhauled the retrieval system powering the front page search bar allowing customers to access more specific result lists from their search.
• Performed data analysis for experiments and undertook experimental machine learning projects, e.g. the initial investigation of moving ranking from heuristic- to ML-driven.
• Advised other engineers on developing within our near real-time Elasticsearch ranking data pipeline to ensure performant data retrieval.
• Mentored and onboarded an intern and peer engineer.
