This work is a continuation of my work at RDI2, with a new home at the SCI Institute at University of Utah. At SCI, I am continuing to develop software both in support of the Institute's research collaborations and in support of my own research into workflow descriptor languages and data engineering for scientific computing on HPC clusters.

I was responsible for research software development at the RDI institute. This included managing the DataSpaces project, as well as participating in a number of multi-institutional collaborations, including the Exascale Computing Project and projects in the Department of Energy’s SciDAC program.

Furthermore, my role involved supporting the research efforts of students, postdocs, and faculty at RDI through design, programming, and evaluation support. Our research software primarily consisted of software libraries that support scientific computing at very large scale, providing performance improvements to machine-scale runs on leadership-class DoE machines.

• Collaborated on three Exascale Computing Project teams, achieving 100% on-time milestone delivery.

• Developed new RDMA capabilities for the ADIOS2 streaming network transport, improving communication throughput for multi-petaflop applications.

• Directed a development team consisting of multiple PhD students and postdocs.

• Published computer science research papers at top-tier conferences, including Supercomputing, IPDPS, and Cluster Computing.

As Senior Network Engineer, my role expanded to take the lead on complex projects and network architecture, while still including all the responsibilities of a Data Engineer.

• Architected, engineered, and coordinated deployment of new network infrastructure.

• Developed switched and routed network strategy.

• Conducted lab testing to evaluate new equipment and designs.

• Performed capacity planning and evaluation of network performance.

• Supported sales by designing high-level customer solutions in response to customer needs.

• Conducted written and oral group training explaining new equipment and designs.

• Planned and executed a refresh of the core-routing platform.

• Upgraded access layer technologies to provide better speed and feature options for customer circuits while reducing overall OSP fiber usage.

• Designed and deployed a state-wide cellular backhaul network for a carrier customer.

• Expanded the network by deploying new core-routing sites and markets.

• Provided the highest level of technical escalation for customer and network issues.

US Signal is one of the largest fiber-optic network operators in the Midwest. As a Data Engineer I was responsible for the growth and administration of packet-based services including DIA, Metro Ethernet, and MPLS VPN.

• Coordinated with other groups to plan and execute network and high-level customer projects.

• Provided support in case of high-level outages as part of a regular on-call rotation.

• Designed and deployed tailored customer solutions and provided very high-level customer support.

• Supported ancillary network services, such as AAA (RADIUS and TACACS+), logging, SNMP monitoring, email alerting, backups, etc.

• Coordinated and performed service-affecting maintenance windows in conjunction with Field Operations and other engineering groups.

• Administered Engineering project management system (Feng Office).

• Provisioned DWDM and SONET transport circuits on Cisco ONS platform.
