• Managing the data transformation platform with 9 direct reports collaborating from 4 different time

zones. The team is currently responsible for scaling and maintaining the guardrails and infrastructure that

allows engineers to leverage spark and DBT for data transformation and exploration. The platform enables the processing of over a petabyte of data every day.

• Working on growing the team to 14 engineers to eventually split the team based on a certain set of

responsibilities. Added resources and restructuring of responsibilities will allow the team to focus on

compliance and data governance for all of Shopify.

• Managing the analytics division which comprises of overlooking 3 teams with 8 direct reports and 22 indirect reports collaborating from 5 different time zones.

• The teams currently handle the deployment and orchestration of 13 stateless services, 3 stateful services, and 6 data pipelines across 11 AWS regions.

• Actively working on hiring and growing the batch team to eventually provide the platform the ability to do custom reporting. The intent is to grow the analytics division to have 4 teams of roughly 27 engineers by end of 2023. Working on increasing the analytics global footprint in Ireland, Hungary, and Israel.

• Leading a core platform team of 9 software engineers that work in 3 different time zones.

• The team handled the deployment and orchestration of 4 stateless services, 2 stateful services, and 5 data pipelines across 11 AWS regions.

• Manage the team to deliver several critical projects focussed to improve resiliency and stability. To name a few: Elasticsearch version upgrade, Rearchitecting the ETL pipeline to adhere to stricter sla’s for datalake hydration, Building tooling to create better insight and visibility for development support, and product management.

• Mentored several junior engineers and helped oversee 4 promotions. Worked with the company to help with the restructuring of the organization and promoted two Lead Engineers to become technical leads required to manage teams and report to me.

• Helped hire and establish a remote team in Canada. The incentive was to look for talent outside the US to build a globally diverse team. Helped with documentation and training videos to facilitate onboarding and mentoring of junior engineers that were hired in Canada. Grew the team's Canadian footprint from 1 to 5 engineers including myself.

• Additional resources in Canada allowed us to expand the scope of the current team to take charge of the platform data compliance needs due to GDPR, FedRamp, PCI, HIPAA, and customized data retention. The nightly pipelines managed by the team leveraged the lambda architecture and processed hundreds of terabytes of snappy compressed Avro serialized data.

• Manage a stateless service that is responsible for consuming data from Kafka and performing real-time ingestion in Dynamo, Elasticsearch, and Druid.

• Maintain a RESTFUL web service that exposes a rich query facade to query data from Elasticsearch, Athena, Druid, Dynamo, and RDS. This API is queried by customers and internal teams millions of times a day.

• Managed an Athena-powered datalake which is hydrated nightly by our EMR clusters.

• Rearchitected the batch ingestion process for Elasticsearch to be more resilient and cost-effective.

• Worked on upgrading the Elasticsearch version with no downtime. The Elasticsearch cluster hosts over 600 billion nested documents and serves 5 years' worth of data with millisecond latency.

• Performance tuning the EMR clusters and actively working on reducing costs.

• Exposed async API's which talk to Athena that powers our datalake solution. The async datalake solution allows customers to perform data extractions from the platform.
